I only skimmed through it because I have the originals, but it essentially covered all the major points. The reason Thor was banished is the same in the comics as in the film. The exact details vary by retelling, but Thor basically violates a truce with the frost giants restarting the war. The thunder and lighting tends to be highly variable. Thor only really became god of thunder with the hammer and he uses lighting on its own rarely enough its easy to think it comes from the hammer.

Mjolnir only Directs and amplifies it, and Thor Blood oath proves this, By stating as a boy his dreams created a great flood, also he revives Hogun the Grim and Stikes down Hulk w/o Mjolnir.
