"Gods" by definition are beyond comprehension and reduction in scientific terms. "Supernatural" implies that they are beyond comprehension in terms of the physical laws of the universe. It doesn't necessarily make them omnipotent or unbeatable, but they certainly should not be defeated by advanced scientific knowledge, that does not apply to them to begin with.
The idea that this advanced human race simply figured out the energy pattern and rubric of a pantheon of gods and summarily disposed of them is really terrible writing. So, without the intervention of these evolved humans, how long would the gods have lasted? Perhaps 200 years until the technology was in place to wipe them out?
If the gods are subject to the scientific method, then by definition they are not supernatural and are not gods. They are a complex evolutionary oddity that eventually gets figured out under scientific rigor and is eradicated like the bubonic plague or polio.
Not so sure about that.Gods may be supernatural but that doesnt mean they are beyond understanding or that they are immune to science.Certainly a genius like Richards could comprehend and combat them given the chance. The Gods of marvel have never been shown as unbeatable by science. There are plenty of plain mortals that have mastered magic.Magic itself has laws that govern it though what they are differs all the time.Using
scientific method doesnt change what it is,it allows understanding like bubonic plague or polio. We know what they are and how to deal with them but they are still the same. Also Richards obviously doesnt understand everything or he would have stopped Thor from becoming the residence of the "dead" gods.
The gods must have weaknesses or every story would end with Odin or Thor,or blank noticed what was going on and simply destroyed the threat.Takes the drama out of everything.NOTE-the above reply in no way means I like Ultimate Thor stories or the way he is usually portrayed.Taking a guess I suspect Richards is in for a surprise from the gods before its over.
