    From issue #348:

...a plonge into a magma pool = fatal? I'm surprise uncle Walt has no one calling him a Thor hater for that.

I am actually fine with the suggestion that a fall from a great height into a pool of magma could be fatal to Thor. In his battle against Beta Ray Bill for Mjolnir the environment, which was extremely hot, was also said to be a disadvantage to Thor (or an advantage to Bill, one or the other).

Surtur, a fire demon, is the arch-enemy of Asgard, it makes sense that the cold-loving Asgardians would be vulnerable to extreme heat.

Walt wrote one of the weakest depictions of Thor when you really analyze it, but it was so well done readers don't really care. And when push came to shove Thor could still bring the pain (eg. Jormungand), but he certainly lost his share of fights under Walt as well.
