Jurgens had what...about five years worth of stories. Many of these have only had maybe a year or two's worth so Jurgen's had a lot more time for good and bad stories.

But in my humble opinion...

1. Mike Oeming -- Thor: Disassembled was probable the best Thor stories ever and Blood Oath is a pretty good story as well.

2. Gillen -- Like Oeming he really knows how to play the mythological/fantasy angels. He has done very well with JIM and cleaning up the story threads left by others.

3. Jurgens -- I know a lot of people do not like his run and I admit it has its ups and downs, but I think the Dark Gods and several other stories were very well written. Thor: Lord of Asgard explored an angle of Thor we have never seen before and I think overall worked pretty well. I think it was the first Thor story to really explore the religious angles of their claims to godhood.

4. JMS -- He brought Thor back and had excellent characterization. Yes, his stories were slow at times, but they felt like they were building up to something. I rank him this low because he left without finishing his story arc and turned Asgard from the shining city into super-medivalville.

5 and 6. I rank Rodi and Fraction about equal. Both have good story ideas and one or two stories that are satisfactory if not great. However, most of their Thor stories drop the ball about halfway through if not at the end.

In defense of JMS, I prefer the Aesir and Asgard being "SUPER- Medieval-ville". It returned Thor to the original inspiration that Stan drew from when he created Thor in the first place: VIKING GODS. I never liked the "tech" crap that Kirby injected into Asgard.
