In defense of JMS, I prefer the Aesir and Asgard being "SUPER- Medieval-ville". It returned Thor to the original inspiration that Stan drew from when he created Thor in the first place: VIKING GODS. I never liked the "tech" crap that Kirby injected into Asgard.

To each his own I suppose. I felt Kirby hit the right mix of incorporating his sci-fi looking tech into the visuals to prevent Thor from looking like pretty much every other uninspired, generic looking pseudo-ancient/medieval take on mythological gods that was out there. Not to mention I think you're overemphasizing Stan's role over Kirby's in Thor's initial development IMO.

watch Star Wars, Star Trek, or read Asimov. When I want Mythology, I want Mythology as per the culture it was drawn from. Inspired and creative writers (which Stan and Larry are) can write amazing stories without re-hashing "generic" myth.

In regard to Stan vs. Jack's contributions, IT WAS STAN that came up with the concept of using the Norse gods. It was Jack THAT ASKED Stan, when they were coming up with a new hero, what could they do to up the ante from The F.F., Spiderman, and The Hulk.
