I think Thor is more powerful than other Asgardians because his pops is Odin and his mother is a high ranking, primeval goddess. Whereas you could MAYBE argue that Zeus is as powerful as Odin, Hera is nowhere near Gaea, hence Thor should be considerably more powerful than Ares, imo.

That said, you don't necessarily get all of the powers of your parents. In fact, in both real myth and comics mythology the offspring of gods are almost always weaker.  Thor doesn't need additional powers, imo. He just needs to be written with god-like status in the MU.


You make mention of the differences of mothers so I'm curious as to the power difference between Hercules and Ares.  Even as a mortal Hercules was far more powerful than Ares.  He just lacked the healing factor.  As a god Hercules is more durable and everything.  Yet Herc's mother was mortal and Ares's mother was a powerful goddess.
