But it is far from certain that's who Donny Cates has in mind.

Instead of introducing a new 'God of Hammers' or 'God of Smiths', Cates could prove his understanding of the material and ability to weave together stories from other writers by making Surtur the God of Hammers (or God of Smiths).

Surely Surtur is the oldest of all these primordial gods, being eclipsed in age only by Ymir. In addition, he's the one who reforged Mjolnir, and is responsible for countless hammers being forged during Ragnarok. That Surtur was responsible for Mjolnir's reforging has been the speculation of many Mjolnir malfunctions, at least from my direction.

It's sad that I'm more excited about my throw-away theory than what Cates actually has in mind...
