Reply Subj: This is why I was hesitant to meet the challenge. He just keeps moving the goalpost, wasting my time.

Yeah, amazing that something like this wouldn't have made an indelible impression on my memory since most of it amounts to your hard feelings of comics you don't like. Believe it or not there's a sea of this on the internet and this didn't stick out to me lol

Let's be clear about something. I have never said that you haven't written long posts about these comics. I said that I hadn't seen you present an argument or literary critique that wasn't overwhelming grounded in your own preferences. This is my consistent position: not that you don't go into detail, but that you conflate your taste with objective quality.

    Quote:
I think your standard for substantive critique isn't a good one if it just means, "I listed a bunch of things I didn't like."

    Quote:
Also, you said you posted essays. Let's say these would quality as essays. (Most of these posts are the size of a tweet thread.) Which one do you take to be the strongest one, most approaching objective or what have you? On that I'll demonstrate what I'm talking about. Or I can pick. I don't want you think I'm just going to pick the easiest one.

The goal post has never been did you ever complain about things in detail. The post has always been can you demonstrate your criticism demonstrates poor quality writing as opposed to just personal or arbitrary preferences. And I promise you that's not an unachievable standard. If you'd like or anyone's interested I can show you examples of criticism that meet that standard.

And like I asked before, which of these you've listed do you think is your strongest criticism? Asking you for that is IN NO WAY moving the post.

cheers,

P.S. And you don't have to participate if you think it's a waste of time. But I think drilling down into criticism, especially when it's SUCH a recurrent aspect of this message board is potentially rewarding.
