First of all, I think this will be Chris Hemsworth's last time playing Thor. He has said in interviews that it will most likely be his last, and that he thinks he will not be asked again... So, this movie could be a "passing of the torch" to Jane Foster. I think it's a huge mistake on Marvel Studios part, but, whatever, it is what it is...

Anyway, be that as it may, if this will be the last real Thor story (Jane Foster as "thor" will never get any support from me), I hope Thor's major arc about becoming King of Asgard, which began from the very first movie (Thor's first scene was supposed to be his coronation), to finally come to pass and realized. I hope Asgard will be revived and Thor assumes his role as the protector of all the 9 realms. Let Jane be his protector of Earth.

What I fear may happen....either, Thor dies after battling Gorr....or he survives, continues his adventures in space, leaves New Asgard and Earth forever.

That he is willing to play Thor forever!
But isn't sure everyone will want that and thinks they may be tired of him playing the role!
So if it's up to him...he'll be playing Thor forever.
Which is okay by me so long as the script is right.
That or just make an ongoing Thor series not a mini series but an ongoing one like Hercules the legendary Journeys!
Hell I'm sure Taika would Direct that and most the cast would be up for it.
I would absolutely love a series where he goes and rights wrongs in the 9 worlds!
