No. Don Perlin did the art. He was the Defenders artist at the end, then went to Transformers. Nocenti wrote it.

Alexander Flynn, the guy claiming to be Doom's son, never became popular. I like him, and I believe his story because Doom's a horrible [bleep]. He was rounding up the Gladiators for Hollywood-produced fighting. They eventually showed up in New Mutants. Possibly there's some connection to Shadow King? Maybe a front for Mojo? Who knows. I really think this idea spawned Nocenti's idea for Longshot (about a year later), but I'm not sure.
