Previous Post

After all these years, a character that was killed off for assorted reasons, including redundancy as I recall, is coming back yet still will be redundant for awhile as his brother Warpath is around, unless he can establish himself in a big way....

.....yet Captain Mar-Vell remains dead.

The apparent revival of him in the Last of the Marvels story in the Captain Marvel series looks to be an under-powered clone.

Which means by that story's end Clone-Vell will likely be dead. Or even if this really is Mar-Vell back at reduced power level, they will kill him off again.

Bucky returns after decades of being on the "never revive" list, his death for decades was the "sacred death" in Captain America that must never be undone. Also Stan Lee didn't want kid sidekicks.

Jim Hammond/Android Torch was brought back after revelations that the Vision was not rebuilt from him, been depowered and blown up a few times since but still gets repaired and returns. Marvel's first character, yet now he just gets blown up and recycled.

Now after decades, Thunderbird is coming back. One of the "sacred" X-men deaths aside from the original demise of the Phoenix back in ish 137, but I think we all knew Phoenix would be back.

But not Mar-Vell....

I type this as a fan of MAr-Vell, with a sympathetic outlook on teh character.

I've said this before. When a character is resurrected, it needs to be at least as good or important of a story as their death. Usually, that is not hard.

For Bucky it was nearly impossible, but Brubaker pulled it off. Maybe not in importance, but a really damn well crafted story. Though I think he should have died and remained dead when Steve came back.

The problem is, Mar-Vell's death was a really good story.

They also have to have a plan. Look what happened when they revived Kraven in a lackluster story, with no plan.

I am not saying there is not a story or plan that can do this, but it is hard to do.

MORE IMPORTANTLY, the MCU. He does not matches the MCU. That is the new reality. The MCU is the real and important universe, and everything else is just an idea farm.

And since in that, Mar-Vell is a little...different, it became near impossible. Annette Benning all but killed the dream of a resurrection.

Thunderbird might still be used in the MCU when the folks X-Folk arrive.

Hope I am wrong about Marv, but...
